Program Objective
The objective of the AIPB Bookkeeper Certification program is to prepare students for the American Institute of Professional Bookkeepers (AIPB) National Certification Exam, the first requirement to receiving the AIPB Certified Bookkeeper designation.
The National Certification Exam is a four-part exam. Parts 1 and 2 are given at any of 300 Prometric Test Centers located throughout the US. Parts 3 and 4 are open-book tests that come with your workbooks, and that will need to be submitted directly to the AIPB. All tests are multiple-choice.
What is a Certified Bookkeeper?
The AIPB Certified Bookkeeper designation assures the level of knowledge and skill needed to carry out all key functions through the adjusted trial balance, including basic payroll, for firms of up to 100 employees.
Certification requires passing an examination, proving 2 years’ experience in bookkeeping, signing a code of ethics and, once certified, meeting ongoing continuing education requirements.
AIPB Bookkeeper Certification Program Requirements
Students enrolling in the Bookkeeping Career Institute AIPB Bookkeeper Certification program are expected to possess a basic level of accounting knowledge or experience at the time of enrollment to further ensure successful completion of that program.
Students enrolling in the AIPB Bookkeeper Certification Program will need to either complete with a passing grade the Financial Accounting Fundamentals course, QuickBooks Fundamentals course, and the Payroll Fundamentals course, or take and pass the courses final exams prior to enrollment.
To become a Certified Bookkeeper through the AIPB, you must meet three requirements:
Purpose of Certification
When a company hires a bookkeeper, they are entrusting their most important possession to a virtual stranger. While they want to know that they are not putting their company at risk, most owners have no way of evaluating a bookkeeper’s true skill level.
The Certified Bookkeeper designation assures an employer that the bookkeeper they hire is qualified and possess the skills and knowledge needed to manage their company books and accurately perform required tasks like the end-of-period adjustments and monthly bank reconciliation, process payroll, compute and record depreciation for both book and tax purposes, cost out and record inventory, and install the internal controls needed to protect company assets.
